FG 6-25 ENERGY POLICY OFFICE
FG 6-25 contains materials pertaining to the Energy Policy Office (EPO) which was established within the Executive Office of the President by Executive Order 11726 effective June 29, 1973 to formulate and coordinate energy policies at the Presidential level; and was abolished on March 26, 1974 by Executive Order 11775. The Government Manual for 1973-1974 defined the Energy Policy Office's responsibilities as "identifying major problems in the energy area, reviewing alternatives, making policy recommendations, assuring that Federal agencies develop short- and long-range plans for dealing with energy matters, and monitoring the implementation of approved energy policies" in order to achieve independence with regard to energy by 1980. Principal correspondents include, among others, the President, John A. Love, Charles J. DiBona, Barry M. Locke, John Schaefer, Robert D. Linder, Lyle Lindesmith, Peter M. Flanigan, William E. Simon, Stanley Ebner, Fred Benson, and numerous congressmen, businessmen, scientists and academics.
The types of documents filed under FG 6-25 are original incoming letters and memoranda; carbons and electrostatic copies of outgoing letters and memoranda; transmittal notes; reports; press releases; transcripts of press conferences; electrostatic copes of magazine articles and newspapers clippings; pamphlets; Executive Orders; memoranda of meetings; cross references to other file subjects; and Presidential messages to Congress.
The Executive file contains material concerning the organization, administration, policies and programs of the Energy Policy Office.
